My job as a TV Outside Broadcast engineer required me to work any hours on any days anywhere at any notice, subject to change at any time, so I travelled around Britain as required, usually in my own car but without much choice of destination.
I preferred to take the opportunity to explore the countryside as I travelled, and would often enjoy the overview from the smallest roads over the biggest mountains rather than repeated journeys along boring motorways. There is plenty of beautiful scenery in Britain, much of it almost unknown. I always preferred walking in the country rather than supporting a hotel bar.
I have still not travelled over every road because my journeys were mainly between defined locations, and still enjoy visiting new places.
